IHHT in Wachenhausen: training for your cells – lying down

IHHT stands for intermittent hypoxic-hyperoxic training. You lie back, relax and breathe alternately lower-oxygen and higher-oxygen air through a mask. A session takes about 50 minutes and costs €65, from €55 in a package.

What is IHHT?

IHHT is a kind of passive altitude training. As when staying in the mountains, your body gets less oxygen in short phases (hypoxia), followed by more oxygen (hyperoxia). This alternation is meant to stimulate the mitochondria – the “power plants” of your cells that provide energy.

IHHT is used in competitive sport and is also attracting growing attention in the field of longevity, that is, healthy ageing. Research on it is still young; first results are considered promising.

Who might find IHHT interesting?

People are interested in IHHT, for example, if they …

  • often feel exhausted or not very resilient
  • want to strengthen their nerves
  • want to do something for their well-being and vitality
  • are looking for a relaxing, passive treatment
  • want to support their recovery after sporting exertion

IHHT is also used alongside other treatment for various conditions. Whether this is an option for you, I clarify in the preliminary conversation – if you have pre-existing conditions, gladly together with your doctor.

Naming areas of application is not a promise of a cure and no guarantee that complaints will improve. Whether IHHT is suitable for you, I clarify in the preliminary conversation.

What does an IHHT session involve?

  1. Preliminary conversation and test

I determine your training level and set the device accordingly.

  2. Relaxing

You lie comfortably and receive a breathing mask, a finger clip and a chest strap.

  3. Interval training

The device switches automatically between lower-oxygen, higher-oxygen and normal air.

  4. Monitoring

Pulse, oxygen saturation and heart rate variability are measured throughout.

A session usually takes about 50 minutes. Most people find it pleasant and calming.

How many sessions make sense?

I recommend 10 to 15 sessions. How often per week, we discuss in the preliminary conversation. With a multi-session card you pay from €55 per session.

Who should not do IHHT?

IHHT is not suitable in cases of:

  • pregnancy
  • severe lung disease
  • severe heart disease
  • acute infections
  • acute cancer

In the preliminary conversation I ask about your health and pre-existing conditions. If IHHT is not suitable for you, I will tell you.
